Create Your Own Reading List: Editing
Greetings, students!
Here's today's plan for the computer lab:
AIM: All students will finish entering the text for their Reading List, including pictures of books from Amazon.com. Students who finish entering their text will edit their lists in pairs to check whether their work meets the guidelines shown in the checklist below.
Reading List Checklist
- The Reading List has a title and author clearly stated in the opening.
- The Reading List has a lead or opening that is engaging to the reader.
- The Reading List includes 10 books or other reading materials, with the title and author clearly and correctly noted (i.e., underlined and capitalized correctly)
- Each book listed has a brief, engaging review or summary.
- Each book listed has a small picture copied from Amazon.com.
Lesson Steps
- Both people should head a piece of lined paper and write the title "Reading List Editing Checklist for _________________" on it. (Put the name of the writer in the blank)
- Read all the guidelines in the checklist before reading the other person's Reading List.
- Both people should open a new screen (ctrl + n), keeping the Reading List Checklist open on one of those screens.
- Bring up the other person's Reading List on their screen, go through each of the guidelines, and write notes about what the other person needs to do to meet the guidelines. For example, if the title of some of their books are not underlined, write "You need to underline all book titles."
- When all guidelines have been gone through and both writers have a list of things they need to do to complete their work, both writers should revise their Reading List as advised by their editors.
