Obesity in America

America? The Statue of Liberty, The Golden Gate Bridge, obese people! Obese people? Yeap! Living in this diverse country, I've seen many things and types of people. But, I usually see an obese person in my daily life. I found out obesity in America is growing at an incredible rate! A true epidemic! While coming, entering, and living in America, you have a high chance of becoming obese or overweight!

"How many people are overweight or obese in America anyway?"

Overweight problems are getting worse and occurs in all ages, both  genders, and all races across America. More than 64.5 percent of adults in America are overweight. 15 percent of kids are overweight, ages 2-19 . This affects 9 million people. In 1994, only 23 percent of people from ages 20 and older are obese but now it is 30 percent.

"Why are there so many obese or overweight people in America?"

Surgeon General David Satcher said many Americans are suffering from weight problems because they aren't doing many physical activies, but eating too much. Willian Dietz said that society is to blame for obesity in America.

You  probably know America is made up of all groups of people from  around the world. So, "What ethnic group does obesity or being overweight affect the most and why?"

Popkin found out that your ethnicity isn't part of obesity. They didn't think Asians would have a doubling obesity level. They thought the ethnic groups would still have their culture, and is most likely to have diets and activities that would prevent obesity.Spanish are battling obesity because they don't understand the nutrition of the foods they consume. They said obesity is increasing for children of immigrants. The immigrants that have a poor understanding of diet, they think that healthy foods are the ones that taste good. They eat more foods that have a lot of fat and and sugar. In other countries, they eat less and work harder. That's why there isn't a lot of obesity over there. In America you have cars, which makes it easier to get around, and we have a lot of fatty foods.

"How do people get overweight or obese?" you may ask.

Obesity is being caused by eating too much fatladen meat and dairy products, and not excercising.Heart  disease, smoking, high blood pressure, and lack of excercise, contributes to obesity. So, eating too much and excercising a little is the problem, maybe to lose weight you  should eat less and excercise more. Doctors say it isn't that easy. When you're overweight or obese, it is difficult to reverse the increasing prevalence in  the United States.

You're probably wondering ,"What happens if you become too obese?"

Being obese increases a person's risk for diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, heart disease and some kind of cancers. They are concerned that, if people start being obese as children, they are likely to be obese as adults, which would cause a lot of health problems. Children are already developing diseases usually found in adults. They are starting to have  type II diabetes, which may be caused by their weight. Being overweight can prevent them from participating in the activities that leaner kids play. So they stay inside, which creates a cycle of inactivity. For every extra pound, a male adult has a 3% risk of dying early.

The most important question of all is "What is the differerance from being overweight and being obese?"

Obesity for men is have body fat that exceeds 20% of their total weight. For women, their body fat must exceed 30% of their body fat to be obese.Being overweight is when a person weighs more than some acceptable standards. You can use your height to compare with other people. If you're over it, you're only considered overweight.Height-weight charts aren't that accurate, because if you have alot of muscle, and it says you weighs a lot, it isn't right. Thinking you're too fat is important psychologically because it can affect how you feel about yourself and the levels of self-esteem. Being overweight can make life or health insurance higher, which isn't fair.  By not knowing if you're overweight or obese can affect how someone can help you. They have to provide you specific information for you to lose weight.

Conclusion

As you can see, many people suffer from obesity and being overweight. It affects the inside and out of the obese or overweight person. It is rapidly spreading, and  by knowing this information, regardless of being overweight or obese, you know the risk and causes of this common but fatal disease. Doing this i-search report is a long and miserable task, but in the end I am satisfied with what I am able to complete. Hopefully, this time around, you'll think twice about what you eat and do, because it can and probably will lead to a thing I like to call obesity... dun dun don.

o5.19.o3

Today i did my checklist. After that i looked through my report too loook for more errors and to see if i made any mistakes. I started my revision with Vivian. She took a long time to start. Before that i helped Alina with her conclusion. Then i bumped my head. The end. I lived happily ever after.

o5.16.o3

Today was better than yesterday because i got to work on my stuff. I copied the stuff from my report to a new story. Today I checked my report on errors. Then i went to www.google.com and looked at images for my report. I found alot, but it was hard to decide, so i asked alina. Today was cool. The end. Happily ever after...

o5.15.o3

Today i couldn't get into my i-search report. So i basically didn't do anything. How come i can access this page and not my other one? I spent the whole day looking for ways to edit my report, but none worked. i switched to like...5 computers! I finally talkd to mr.delaney but it did'nt help much.

o5.o7.o3_

I did'nt do much today. I just worked on my introduction paragraph and started on my closing paragraph. Then I helped Alina some more on her introduction. I went to www.dictionary.com to find some words for her introduction. Later i skimmed my isearch report to see if its making sense, in order, and all that other stuff. After, the internet explorer messed up and then  ended up exiting all my stuff. It was okay though because i  copied it before i posted it, so not much got lost.

o5.o6.o3_

Today we worked on our introduction paragraphs. It was kinda easy for me, but i wanted to add a word that i heard alot during my research on obesity in America. i went to dictionary.com to look it up, and then added the word to my introduction paragraph. After that, writing the paragraph was a breeze. Later i helped Alina and vivian on their introduction paragraphs. "I have good vocabulary skills," says Alina. yeap yeap...

o4.3o.o3_

We worked on our report by answering questions from our iq. I was also helping alina and vivian with their questions. I used my notes to help me answer my questions, but then i accidently deleted the whole thing. I had to go back and do it over, but didn't save. I'll do some more of the i-search stuff at home.

o4.29.o3_

I learned about how to make the report and stuff. I copied the I-search report map. After i did all of that, i worked on my bibliography. I also had to visit back the sites from my notes, because i had to look it over again because it didn't provide enough information.

o4.24.o3_

Today i went on www.noodletool.com for help with my bibliography. It was a big help. Also i went on www.cnn.com to find more about the source, but i didn't learn much. On noodletool i typed in the information and it came out with the bibliography. It was a big help. Then i replaced my old bibliography with the ones from noodle. After, i just filled out the journal.

o4.22.o3_

I couldn't post my notes. I'ma have to start over again. Today i also thought of some I.Q questions. i thought of 15. I wish i would've thought of some more but i couldn't think of any. The notes were kind of easy to summerize.

o4.9.2oo3_

Today i answered the questions Ms.Turnbull had on her page. After I answered the questions i summerized some of my notes.

o4.8.2oo3_

I did hekka work today. I finished my biblography and notes on Obese peoples. I knew it would be easy. All i gotta do now is to summerize my notes. The server was acting up though. so yea.

o4.7.2oo3_

I didn't write my journal in class today because i didn't have time. I decided to work on my I-search at home instead of my reading log. It was easy finding notes on obesity in america. The bibliography was kinda tough because some notes, didn't have all the information. So thats, it.

o4.4.2oo3_

Today i didn't get to find any sources again. It's hard finding sources on sleep. I'm thinking about change my subject but i dont want to start all over on everything. Ms.Carol told me some information on sleeping and tried to type in Psychology sleeping facts. I had a little more information rather than jus typing in sleeping facts, but still it wasnt quite da information i hoped for.So that's my day.

o3.28.2oo3_

The server was getting on my nerves. I found alot of internet sources but they were long. The computer wouldn't post my notes! and i hadto refresh the computer like 50 million times. Then finally it worked. it was a long day.

o3.26.2oo3_

The server was acting up again! I tried pasting the facts and stuff but i could'nt becuase everytime i posted it wouldnt PosT! I couldnt get the kind of facts i wanted. They always had something WaY different then what i  was thinking. This was also a kinda short day. So yea thats it.

o3.25.2oo3_

Dang! Took me a bizzillion years to get here. Today all i did was look up internet sources. It was hekka confusing because i didnt know whether to put down the website url or jus copy the notes. So, i did both just case. I found alot of facts that didnt even relate to what i was talking about. HeKka frustrating! I only found 1 print source today. I admitt i was laughing to much! okay thats it. PEACE. get out ov hea!!

o3.13.2oo3_

I started my i-search check list today. I made my whole page gray and sky blue but i found out i could'nt do that so i had to make it all black, again. Then i started on my internet sources. it was hekka hard! All they had on sleeping was advertisments on buying beds and Rated R things. darN! also i didnt get to do much today so yeah. I found out i still have alot to do on my i-search before i finish!

o3.11.2oo3_

I finally finished my article and went to google for more information. I found out alot of facts on sleeping. I also found out that there are alot of meanings for "sleeping" so it was hard to find specifically for my subject. I didnt find any important websites today. Arturo kept bothering me so it took me longer then usual. Ms. Carol helped me out by telling me important places to look for facts. Its 1:03 and im about to sign off. CyA

o3.10.2oo3_

Today we continued working on the i-search articles. I finally finished mine but Brian was bothering me so it tooke me a while. Juan had trouble logging in, so i decided to read a book. it is now 1:02 and the air conditioner is on and it really loud, which made it hard to hear Ms.Turnbull. I was sleepy, which is kinda what my i-search is about. IM SLEEP DEPRIVED. well yeah. that's it.

o3.6.2oo3_

Juan was my partner today for that comprehension thing. He reads and types really slow, so it took us a while. We didn't even get to finish. I didn't really know what to do, but i had an idea of what we were suppose to do. Ms.Turnbull confirmed it and i continued working. I was sleepy again so i read my articles a few more times because i couldn't really get the idea. I also read pretty slow, so we kinda wasted alot of time.

o2.27.2oo3_

Today i had alot of problems going onto the library site. I was also tired so it was hard to consentrate. Today's lesson was kind of easy , it was'nt that hard to find bibliographies of the articles that i had in the notes. My notes were all bunched up , and it was kind of difficult to separate the articles from where they came from.

o2.21.2oo3_

I remember that i had alot of problems finding notes about my subject and answering my I.Q. questions. I thought many times about changing my subject to one that has alot of resources and interesting facts. So i thought about a subject that i never really thought about , but should know about. sleeping!!! yeah...i should of thought of that in the beginning because it is my LIFE. Well then i looked for notes about sleeping and asked some I.Q. questions. BiNgO! It was an interesting subject , plus had alot of interesting facts and answered many of my questions. I wanted to use google or yahoo but Ms.Turnbull said i couldn't and had to use SFPL or that kids thing. MaN!!
