Writing Your Persuasive Essay/Presentation
Your persuasive essay/presentation should be in a traditional 5 paragraph essay format as outlined below:
Introduction: Your introduction should:
- Get the attention of your intended audience
- Introduce your topic
- Clearly state your point of view on the topic
- Let your reader know what to expect next--transition the reader into the rest of the paper
Body Paragraphs: You should have at least three body paragraphs. Each body paragraph should contain:
- A topic sentence stating your argument
- Facts, reasons and examples supporting your argument
- Statements that show you recognize audience concerns or counterarguments to your argument
Conclusion: Your conclusion should be the strongest part of your essay/presentation. It should be like the knockout punch in a fight.
- Sum up your arguments
- Restate your point of view clearly in a way that persuades YOUR AUDIENCE (not your peers)
